It depends. Not all the wedding photography location or venues allowed to have aerial wedding photography.
The Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) of Australia and National park of Australia have regulation for the drone or aerial wedding photographers.
Aerial photography or Drone photography offer a whole different and special angle to your wedding day. Couples love the breathtaking and unique photos.
Firstly, the price of aerial wedding photographer is not cost efficiency. Normally the price is around $400 – $800 and less than two hours. But the truth is less than one hour capturing time.
Secondly, couple need to have longer package for normal wedding photography and videography package. Because the aerial wedding photographer need to prepare and empty the place for shooting.
Thirdly, Safety reason. In Melbourne, all the aerial wedding photographers need to follow the regulation made by CASA and national park.
The Drone Operator MUST:
1, You only can fly one drone at the same time
2, You need fly your drone within visual— this means:
– flying drone only during the daytime
– To avoid flying in cloud, fog or heavy rain (use app UAV Forecast to check the weather)
– you can see your drone with your own eyes at all times — not by allowed to see the drone through binoculars or video screen
– do not allow to fly behind buildings, trees or anything else that blocks you check your drone at all times.
The Drone Operator MUST NOT fly your drone:
1, the drone cannot higher than 120 m (400 ft) above ground level
2, the drone cannot closer than 30 m to people
3, Over or above people and cars at any time or height
4, in a way that creates a hazard to another person, aircraft or property
5, near emergency situations (fire alarm place etc.)
6, the location is in prohibited or restricted airspace (use the APP Opensky to check the area)
7, 5.5 km near the airport or airfield
8, near helicopter landing site
No drone can fly in notional park in Victoria to protect the wild animals.
1, under 2 kg drone, the operator needs to have aviation reference number (ARN) and register your drone on CASA.
2, If the drone is over 2kg, the operator needs to have remote pilot licence (RePL) or remotely piloted aircraft operator’s certificate (ReOC).
According the regulations from CASA and the Park Vicotoria, the couple married in Yarra Valley area and some homestead can have drone wedding photography. The venues in or near Melbourne CBD, for example, CROWNS, Arial, Show Time, Cargo Hall, Plaza Ballroom, etc. cannot have aerial wedding photos. The venues around Albert Park, like the park, Carousel, Greenfield etc. also cannot have aerial wedding photos.
From the Melbourne wedding photographer perspective, the wedding day is full of fun and relax. The aerial wedding photographers should put the safety issue to the first. The couple should not ask the aerial wedding photographer break the rules from CASA and the park Victoria.
